Praeter Advisory / Business Focus  / Thanksgetting?

In keeping with the season, I’ve recently been reflecting on everything for which I’m thankful. Shame on me.

The list starts off noble enough: family, friends, health. But it goes downhill from there. Soon I’m thinking of the house where I live, good food, my car (make that plural), and so forth. While the feelings of gratitude are sincere, the emphasis seems to be on what I’ve been able to acquire more than on opportunities to provide for others.

I’m challenged by people in my orbit, rich and poor, whose generosity is significant. Their remarkable lives show that being thankful can be more about giving than about getting. That’s a lesson I’m willing to embrace. And one that’s valuable any time of year.

Happy Thanksgiving.
